To all our Longboard Surfing Members

After the success of the Aloha Cup in Cape Town, Surfing South Africa announced that the WP Open would include a Longboard Surfing event as well, if we accepted.

SALSA naturally did, and the event will take place on the 25/26 March 2006 - Open to all longboard surfers.

However, to run our new longboard event requires a minimum of R 20K, which covers prize money as well.

I am actively pursuing a sponsor for 10K that will become the naming sponsor.

I would like some help in coming up with the balance. Alternatively, you might have a company that would be prepared to put in the
 R 10K.

The recent Rabbit Kekai in Costa Rica was run with the assistance of numerous small sponsors, each putting in an amount. This gave them T shirt branding and beach branding as well as ancillary promotions that they decided to run.

Hopefully, amongst our vast membership, we will be able to do a similar thing. We have an opportunity to establish a new, annual event on our longboard surfing calendar. Specifically it will be aimed at our Open Division, but will uplift all our Juniors as well as the older members that want to give it a shot.

I am suggesting a R 2000 commitment from those members that can afford to help sponsor the contest. There are a number involved directly in the surfing industry as well as those in related lifestyle businesses - cars, insurance, decor. Obviously you would have branding rights at the beach and opening function, as well as on the SALSA website.

If there are competing sponsors, I.e., those in a similar line, SALSA will be obliged to choose the first one to commit. Should we raise more than is required to run the event, it will be elevated to a higher category rating, with a larger prize.

All will receive a comprehensive breakdown of the budget.

Thanks to Charlie Moir and Castor King for getting the ball rolling with a R 2000 sponsorship.

We have a new annual event that requires support.

Please consider being part of it, through entering or sponsoring.

Kind regards

Deon Bing
SALSA

That’s all for now.

Cheers
